Ooh, there's a great way to size rings-- they put tiny ball bearings inside of the bottom of the ring, it also keeps it from spinning around your finger.

Bonus: if you start picking up heavy stuff that gets hooked, those little balls dig in and you take the ring off before you 1) damage the ring or 2) get your finger ripped off. (In my mom's folks' generation there were two guys in town with all their fingers-- one was the Father, the other was the Doctor.)
