....Ok, so maybe I have a strange sense of humor.....

.....but I really found this News to be amusing.

I hate the idea of arranged animal fights, be they Dogs to Chickens.

And when "an alleged" illegal gets his.....from a Chicken no less, it makes me feel all warm inside.

DELANO, Calif. -- A Central California man who was at a cockfight died after being stabbed in the leg by a bird that had a knife attached to its own limb, officials confirmed Monday.

Jose Luis Ochoa, 35, of Lamont, was declared dead at a hospital about two hours after he was injured in neighboring Tulare County on Jan. 30, the Kern County coroner said.

An autopsy concluded Ochoa died of an accidental "sharp force injury" to his right calf.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said it was unclear if a delay in seeking medical attention contributed to Ochoa's death.

"I have never seen this type of incident," Sgt. Martin King, a 24-year veteran of the sheriff's department, told the Bakersfield Californian.

Ochoa and the other spectators fled when authorities arrived at the scene of the fight, King told the newspaper. Deputies found five dead roosters and other evidence of cockfighting at the location, he said.

No arrests were made at the cockfight.

Cockfighting is a sport, illegal in the United States, in which specially bred roosters are put into a ring and encouraged to fight until one is incapacitated or killed....

Sadist got what his Neandertal ass deserved.

Why did the chicken cross the road? To avoid being arrested for manslaughter.

Oh.....and still Eff you, Michael Vick.
Over and Out.

Muwahaha!

Hopefully Sgt King and his co-workers are looking for the half-barrels covered with wire that *always* show up. (that's where the cocks live when not fighting)

Law enforcement in Cali doesn't usually do anything about it, for some reason, but maybe this will get some attention.

Yep, I heard about this and was delighted.

Comeuppance. Irony. Fowl Justice.

They should all be arrested, and forced to fight each other for air in a barrel.

Good one, Wollf!

Well, while you all crow about this, a lot of baby chicks are going to grow up with out a father figure while their daddy languishes in a prison cell. The good news for him is that being California, even if he gets a death sentence, he will most likely die of old age rather than do the final stroll.

Maybe we should get roosters to defend our southern border. seems they are better at killing illegal aliens then the Bored err Patrol are.

Something smells fisgy about this story. I think it more likley that the fatal wound was anministered by a human rather than an avian actor. It would not be the first time that a bet was paid in blood rather than money. It will turn out that the rooster is not the culprit. That's my take, and I'm just sayin"

Roger, ever deal with a violent rooster?

They stab with those talons on their feet-- that's why the fights have folks attaching razor-sharp blades to them.

Usually, the human wounds are taken on the back of the arms, defending the human's head-- this guy probably had a grip on the chicken's neck or wing, maybe one of the legs, and was bent over trying to catch another limb.

I never saw the cuts myself, and the ones in the area I grew up in were usually actual razor blades instead of small knives.

This blog post shows some examples of the "knives."

Foxie.....Thanks for that link, REALLY leads a bit more credence to the victim bleeding out.

Made me think of Freddie Krueger Chicken!!

And bleeding out is not hard to do. I was quite surprised at how much blood I lost during the pinkie finger removal project.

Veins and arteries in the leg are much bigger.

Foxfier, No, my experiance with roosters has been more epicurian than combative. I do know that they have some pretty nasty blades attached for the fighting pit. I do know a little about bleeding out. It takes about 8 minutes to die if the femoral artery is severed and a little longer if it is mearly punctured. The report says he was wounded in the calf not the groin. I guess none of his pals knew about applying pressure to the wound. It works but it must be applied prety forcefully. I mean with enough force to hurt, really hurt. Inever heard of anyone dieing from a single stab wound to the calf. I guess anything is possable no matter how improbable.

Just normal roosters are bad enough that my folks had a zero tolerance policy for them acting mean. If they get the idea they can bully humans, they can do major harm. (looking back, part of their caution was probably because there were so many cockfighters that went through our valley)

His "pals" were probably long gone-- get arrested, they'll run a check on you, and you might get deported or picked up for the DUI/rape/whatever you did wrong BEFORE this. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to run himself, and if alcohol/something less legal was involved.

It looks like the popular theory is the chicken hit the tibial artery-- I think that's behind the calf muscle (or between it and the bone, rather) and might explain why he thought he could get by without treatment-- stab went deeper than he thought, didn't see the blood pulsing out in the dark/under his pants. Not exactly as easy to reach as the femoral!
