Valour It and remembering.........

Now we get personal..... and give the reason for my accepting the 'Comission' of Team Leader for the Marines at Valour IT......

Hope you don't mind, and really..... well, I don't mind if you do........ so long as you contribute, and leave me a friggin' comment.... Jeebus, I alone out here?

I dedicated my part of this year's fundraiser to my Dad, the "Sar'Major", who passed a couple of weeks ago.

In later posts, I'll celebrate a Good Man's Life.....for today, I'll give you a glimpse of Him, A Marine first and foremost.... then a Husband, and a Father..... we disagreed about numerous things, but..... well, he was better armed, and 'outwardly', afraid of nothing.

This is his First Commendation...... Yup, Silver Star.......

Tis....is my Grandfather's.....on Dad's side..... another Marine. My Maternal Grandad 'Pinky', was one of the original Teufel Huenden......

A lot to live up to that no one can..... so, I'm doing this........

And....... Dad's medal case.....and some of the things that being a Marine prepared him for....... Civil Defense, Arizona Ranger....Captain thereof....

Come on, open your wallets and pull out your credit card..... it's nothing compared to the Men and Women that protect you.

They need help.

Don't make me invoke my Big Brother that died in Viet Nam....only twenty years later from Agent Orange......

Dammit, let's get it together People! Those on the Marine Blogroll over there....-> -> ->
Start writing, motivating, e-mailing everybody you know!!

Do NOT make me say 'please'...... You would seriously not like that.....

UPDATES:
Blatherings .....has a piece up and a cool video.....

Thanks,
Semper Fi.

First Day..........

"I work at the Men's and Women's Trauma Recovery Program at The Menlo Park VA. Our program's mission is to serve military men and women who are suffering from the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. On behalf of our entire program, I want to personally thank you for donating the WII Fit. The Wii gaming system offers opportunities for our patients to actively interact with one another, which is different from other gaming systems. For example four people can actually play tennis or baseball, which helps them engage with one another, and reduce isolation. The Wii fit will allow our patients to actively exercise with others and gives them another avenue to engage in healthy habits. With your donation, you are working with us to help support each person's recovery and building the foundation for a better quality of life for our veterans and active duty service members." - Melissa Puckett, Recreation Therapist/Supervisor, January 2009

You don't have to join a Team to give....just hit the clicky thingie on the right sidebar.

I'll be adding links to Team Bloggers so you can read them....meantime, if you want to learn more, click the Team Members and read their stuff.

U.S. Marine Corps Hymn (Marine Hymn........)

.............Has inspired me since my Dad first sang it to me.............

Watch, below, the official USMC Commandant's Address....one of the most inspiring, from any Commandant, on tomorrow's 235th Birthday of the Corps.

My Grandfather Clarence was at Belleau Wood, My Grandfather Stevenson was a Pilot over France, my Dad was a Much decorated E-5 on Peleliu, my Brother Mike was killed 45 years after Vietnam by that Agent Orange crap.

The Family have been Marines. My youngest aspires to the tradition.

Watch this....Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!

Do you know the words?

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

G-d Bless the Corps and all who have served.

Now, as Lil'Wolfie would say....."Click the Button and give some Money, you Jack Wagons!!!!"

Don't make me send #77 out to put the HURT on you......heh

I get more e-mails than I know what to do with......

.....and sometimes they fit right into the current Blog meme.....get a load of this, and yes, because it's Internal USMC, I've redacted the names......

Cpl. REDACTED...I have attached some photos of our Wounded Warriors West, Operation Mountain Freedom for 2010. We take our Marines to Mammoth Lakes for a winter program and summer program, the program restores confidence and teaches skills, regardless of the condition. Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra provides a wonderful experience for all the Marines who attend. They give each wounded warrior a scholarship to ski for life for free.

If you have a chance, would you pass this along to the Commandant. Thanks, REDACTED

Some pics from Steve Colwell,who was wounded in Nam as a 2nd LT. He works with these kids all the time.

Now.....enjoy the uplifting pics of Marines who never give up.....and click that little GIVE button on the sidebar. Now, Jackwagons!

My State of Kalifornia just re-elected the same bunch of Liberal Nanny-State Morons as in the past and I'm angry.

Make me feel better and click the Button. I'm becoming unpleasant. The old MOS is rearing it's ugly head......

Weren't those fantastic?

An aside, seems that my Boss is flying a group of them up to Mammoth in the next few weeks.

Project Valor IT......USMC Team

You know what it is, Soldier's Angels. My hand is particularly bothersome this morning, so I posted the cartoon. I'll do more later....Wait a damminute! I'll just cut and paste from one of the Worthy Sites....Back in a minute!!!

.....Ok, I'm back, and here it is....

Valour-IT's online fundraising competition begins today! Let's see who can raise the most money to help reconnect our wounded warriors with the world!

WHAT: Friendly fundraising competition for Valour-IT.

WHEN: October 28th through Veterans Day, November 11th. Team USMC's goal is $15,000.

WHERE: Based in the blogosphere, spreading everywhere else.

WHY: Because giving wounded warriors with hand and arm injuries access to a computer supports their healing and puts them back in touch with the world.

HOW: Blogger teams will be divided along military branches, with civilians "up for grabs."

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Click that "GIVE" button over on the right...it's that simple.

Help one of guys or gals.

Cut-n-Pasted with all due respect from the ARMY Team over at Castle Arrrrrgh

About our Soldiers.........

.....You may well have read this before, but it bears repeating, what with the Horrific acts of violence yesterday at Ft.Hood in Texas......

And as a reminder of why it's important to support or JOIN Valor IT in the Posting below......

1/2 Boy 1/2 Man

If you read this, you WILL forward it on.
You just won't be able to stop yourself.

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired,
tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society
as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind
the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his
country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his
own car than wash his father's, but he has never collected unemployment
either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student,
pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and
has a
steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to
be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and
roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is
working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.. He has trouble
spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him,
but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less
time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun
or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.

He can march until he is told to stop,
or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without
spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.

He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps
his canteens full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He
can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.

If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his
food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when
you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were
his hands.

He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and
still find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short
lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in
combat and is unashamed.

He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while
at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away '
those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even
stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he
defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying
the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the
American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except
our friendship and understanding..
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with
his blood.

And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this
tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.

As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot. . .

A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

'Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in
our time of need. Amen.'

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our
ground troops in Afghanistan , sailors on ships, and airmen in the air,
and for those in Iraq , Afghanistan and all foreign countries.

They deserve it......

Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman,
Marine, or Airman, prayer is the very best one.

The second best is to donate to Valor I T....or at least join the show, I picked Marines...you know why.
G-d Bless you my Friends
