A Grand Dad Story..........

Read a version of this the other day, and remembered my Grandfather relating the same story to me back in the late 'sixties, as his way of dealing with a gossip....he said that the reason they gossip is to keep the attention away from the sins that they themselves want to keep private.......

Back in Maine, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church’s and the little Town of Booth Bay's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people’s business..

Several Folkes did not approve of her extracurricular activities, but feared her accusing tongue enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Grandfather, a new member of the Church, but a long time neighbor, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old blue pickup truck parked in front of the town’s one and only bar all afternoon.

"But who wouldn't expect it, he's an Indian, don't you know......"

She emphatically told Grandfather (and several others) that everyone seeing it there, would know what he was doing!

Grandfather, a man of very few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away.

He didn’t explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing.........

But later that evening, he quietly parked his pickup in front of the Church Lady's house...........

And walked the mile home.

Left it there all night.

Never heard another word from her........

Hahahaha!
My grandmother used to say it was okay for people to gossip about her because as long as they were talking about her they weren't talking about anybody else.
